Early Schooling
My early schooling was, in my opinion perhaps better than what I hear from a lot of people. I went to a private middle school which offered grades Pre-K to 8th. It was a great school which had, in my opinion some great teachers.

My middle school was called St. Luke’s School and it was in Barrington RI, which wasn't very far from my home. It was a small catholic middle school and I loved it there. I don't remember all that much of my early days there. I don't see anything of those early days having any real impact or significance on my life. I mean, yes I learned math and English and everything that goes with it, but, other than that it just wasn't a time of big personal growth. It was a good time and I had a lot of fun but, nothing life changing. While I don't believe there were any events that had an impact on my life, I will always remember the teachers that I had in those years.

I feel like those teachers did a pretty good job of teaching me English and math. I was exposed to a lot of literature at home so the English was easy, math less so. After third grade we moved to the second floor of the school, which for us was a huge deal. Those were the years I remembered the most and when the material became more interesting and challenging. My fourth grade teacher was that one teacher that is the mean teacher that every school has. I remember her name was Ellen Thomson and we called her ET, extra-terrestrial. I learned a lot of the same things as previous years only more advanced. Some things I remember starting those years were the vocab books that were used all the way through high school. I do not believe they were a very effective method of teaching vocab words as I never retained a lot of them.

There were very few male teachers at my middle school, at one point there was only one. One of the teachers Mr. Durezo I believe his name was, was the worst teacher. He did not even have a proper license to teach and he was the worst teacher I have ever had. I’ll always remember him for that. My 7th and 8th grade teachers were my favorites as they taught very well and I remember them well. One of them was my cross country coach so, she was the start of my running career which I continued in high school.
I don’t remember when exactly the idea of becoming a teacher popped in my head, but I know that at some point in middle school, I think 8th grade I tossed the idea around in my mind. I did have a love for history then so I was always going to look at professions that were related to history. Though, at that time I was not seriously considering a teaching career, it was just floating in the back of my mind.

There were three teachers at my middle school that I have the fondest memories of, and who also were the teachers I considered to be my inspirations at the time. They were my eighth grade teacher, my seventh grade teacher, and my English teacher when I was in eighth grade. They were the ones who greatly encouraged me to pursue my interests and passions. I also felt they were my best teachers who brought the most life and excitement to the class. I feel lucky to have gone to the school I did go to as I feel like I got a good education from it. The roots I planted there are special to me and were the start of who I am today.
